Target Background

Function
Regulates the expression of transcription factors that define the cell fates. Acts in a non-cell-autonomous fashion, functions in a radial inside-out signaling process, and mediates cell morphogenesis and cell fate across clonally distinct cell layers in floral primordia, developing ovules, and root meristems. Seems to be required for the regulation of cell shape and the orientation of the mitotic division plane. Involved in root hair specification, in the formation of the outer integument and the shape of organs such as carpels and petals and is necessary for the shape and height of the stem. Non-functional SUB proteins are retained in the endoplasmic reticulum and degraded by endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD).
Gene References into Functions
  1. SUB is mis-targeted in hap13-1. However, unlike that of PIN2, the distribution of PIN1 is independent of HAP13. Genetic interference of exocytic trafficking at the TGN/EE by specifically downregulating HAP13 phenocopied the defects of hap13-1 in SUB targeting and ovule development. PMID: 27541731
  2. These results suggest that the AN protein is one of the critical downstream factors of SCM pathways specifically responsible for mediating its effects on cell/tissue morphogenesis through cortical microtubule arrangement. PMID: 26296462
  3. importance of distinct kinase residues for these three developmental processes provides an explanation for the maintenance of the conserved kinase domain in the SCM protein PMID: 25136062
  4. STRUBBELIG extracellular domain variant harbours considerable amounts of Glc1Man7GlcNAc2 N-glycans suggesting that the ER-quality control processes are tightly interconnected to promote protein folding or disposal. PMID: 25251695
  5. The C2-domain protein QUIRKY and the receptor-like kinase STRUBBELIG localize to plasmodesmata and mediate tissue morphogenesis in Arabidopsis thaliana PMID: 25256344
  6. QKY is localized at the plasma membrane and functions in a multiprotein complex that includes SUB and PAL OF QUIRKY, a previously uncharacterized PB1-domain-containing protein that localizes both at the plasma membrane and in intracellular compartments. PMID: 24173806
  7. ANGUSTIFOLIA is a central component of tissue morphogenesis mediated by the atypical receptor-like kinase STRUBBELIG. PMID: 23368817
  8. SCM/SUB mediates developmental stage-specific signal for leaf patterning PMID: 22805005
  9. Studying SUB-dependent signalling will contribute to our understanding of how atypical kinases mediate signal transduction and how cells co-ordinate their behaviour to allow organs, such as ovules, to develop their three-dimensional architecture. PMID: 20298225
  10. a new gene, SCRAMBLED, is described; required for cells to appropriately interpret their location within the developing root epidermis [SCRAMBLED][SCM] PMID: 15618487
  11. These findings help define the developmental and mechanistic role of SCRAMBLED and suggest a new model for its action in root epidermal cell patterning. PMID: 17027738
  12. SUB acts in a non-cell-autonomous fashion, functions in a radial inside-out signaling process, and mediates cell morphogenesis and cell fate across clonally distinct cell layers in floral primordia, developing ovules, and root meristems. PMID: 18771664
  13. SCM expression and accumulation in the epidermal cell layer is necessary and sufficient to direct the cell-type pattern. PMID: 19097902
  14. DOQ, QKY, and ZET contribute to SUB-dependent organogenesis. PMID: 19180193
