Target Background

Function
Has antibacterial activity in vitro against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In addition, the peptide is active against Candida albicans, indicating a broad spectrum of activity.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Sequencing of exon 2 of the TAP gene from 23 cattle revealed a prevalent non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) A137G, encoding either serine or asparagine at residue 20 of the mature peptide. PMID: 23333196
  2. Twenty four hours post E. coli stimulation, IL1b, IL6, IL8, TNF and LAP gene expression was decreased compared to 6h, whereas TAP and SAA3 expression was further increased to 209- and 3452-fold (P<0.05). PMID: 23200820
  3. The results from this study clearly demonstrate the involvement of octamer transcription factor-1 in the regulation of tracheal antimicrobial peptide and lingual antimicrobial peptide expression. PMID: 21674298
  4. The production of tracheal antimicrobial peptide in mammary epithelial cells in reponse to bacteria, drugs, and prolactins is reported. PMID: 19181355
Subcellular Location
Secreted.
Protein Families
Beta-defensin family, LAP/TAP subfamily
