Target Background

Function
RNA-binding protein that binds to misfolded non-coding RNAs, pre-5S rRNA, and several small cytoplasmic RNA molecules known as Y RNAs. May stabilize some of these RNAs and protect them from degradation.; May play roles in cilia formation and/or maintenance.
Gene References into Functions
  1. These data support the hypothesis that antibodies to Ro274 deposit in salivary glands can enter intact salivary gland cells and are involved in the dysregulation of salivary flow in SS. PMID: 25370295
  2. Restricted specificity of intermolecular spreading to endogenous La (SS-B) and 60 kDa Ro (SS-A) in experimental autoimmunity. PMID: 12121436
  3. differences in the epitope spreading after 60 kDa Ro peptide immunization in several strains of mice PMID: 12410797
  4. Ro protein has a role in preventing an autoimmune syndrome characterized by anti-ribosome antibodies, anti-chromatin antibodies, and glomerulonephritis PMID: 12788971
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm.
Protein Families
Ro 60 kDa family
Tissue Specificity
Highest in brain, followed by lung, muscle, kidney and heart. Lower levels are found in testis, liver and spleen.
