Target Background

Function
Vacuolar iron transporter involved in the transfer of iron ions from the cytosol to the vacuole for intracellular iron storage. Vacuolar iron storage is required for seed embryo and seedling development. May be involved in the regulation of iron translocation between flag leaves and seeds. Can transport zinc ions from the cytosol to the vacuole.
Gene References into Functions
  1. OsVIT1 and OsVIT2 are highly expressed in rice flag leaves and function to transport Fe and Zn into vacuoles across the tonoplast. PMID: 22731699
Subcellular Location
Vacuole membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
CCC1 family
Tissue Specificity
Highly expressed in leaf blades. Expressed in leaf sheaths.
