Target Background

Function
Regulator of cell matrix adhesion having two related functions, one upstream of Actn organizing the Z line and the other downstream of integrins regulating assembly of integrin adhesion sites. Also required for the formation of myotendinous junctions in muscles.
Gene References into Functions
  1. analysis of Zasp52 nonmuscle expression and epithelial apicobasal localization PMID: 24846727
  2. Zasp is the first protein shown to co-activate alpha5beta1 integrins with talin and appears to do so in a manner distinct from known alphaIIbbeta3 integrin co-activators. PMID: 22992465
  3. Zasp52 and Zasp66 directly bind to alpha-actinin, and they can also form a ternary complex. PMID: 23505387
  4. Zasp52 is required for the association of alpha-actinin with the flight muscle Z-disc, and for normal sarcomere structure. PMID: 23271733
  5. stage- and tissue-specific expression in different muscle types for Zasp52 isoforms encoding different LIM domains. PMID: 21867777
  6. Our observations point to an important function for Zasp in the assembly of integrin adhesion sites both in cell culture and in tissues. PMID: 18166658
  7. Transcriptional analysis of dzasp has revealed six additional exons, with respect to the known 16, and multiple splice variants PMID: 19603185

Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton.
Tissue Specificity
Expression is first detected in the proctodeum and the midgut primordium. In stage 11 embryos, expression is predominant in the leading edge of epidermal cells adjacent to the amnioserosa. Stage 12 embryos exhibit expression in the midgut and the leading
