The ELISA Kit is designed for quantitatively measuring human IL-16 levels in samples, including serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, or tissue homogenates. It uses the sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique in combination with the enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction to quantify the analyte in the sample. The color develops positively to the amount of IL-16 in samples. The color intensity is measured at 450 nm via a microplate reader.
IL-16 is known to induce the IL-2Rα on T cells, suppress HIV replication and inhibit T-cell antigen receptor/CD3 mediated T-cell stimulation in mixed lymphocyte reactions. In addition, IL-16 acts in concert with IL-2 and/or IL-15 to promote CD4+ T-cell proliferation, and is a chemoattractant factor for CD4+ cells. IL-16 plays a key role in airway hyper-responsiveness and up-regulation of IgE. IL-16 has been associated with diseases characterized by CD4+T-cell involvement, such as allergic asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
