This human nesfatin-1 ELISA kit employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique to measure the levels of human nesfatin-1 in different samples, including serum, plasma, or tissue homogenates. The enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction is also used to amplify the signal and quantify the levels of the analyte through the intensity of the colored product. The color intensity positively correlates with the amount of nesfatin-1 bound in the initial step.
Nesfatin-1 is a potent anorexigenic peptide that is processed from the precursor-peptide NEFA/nucleobindin 2 (NUCB2) and is involved in the modulation of homeostatic feeding. In the hypothalamus and brainstem, nesfatin-1 recruits the oxytocin, the melancortin, and other systems to relay its anorexigenic effects. In addition to anorexigenic properties, nesfatin-1 has also been found to perform other important functions, especially associated with energy homeostasis. such as energy expenditure and glucose homeostasis. Nesfatin-1 also has pleiotropic effects on the level of cardiovascular and digestive systems, as well as being implicated in stress response, sleep, and reproduction.
