Description

The S100A8/A9 complex, also known as calprotectin, is a heterodimeric protein composed of S100A8 and S100A9 subunits that belongs to the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins. This complex plays important roles in innate immunity and inflammatory responses, functioning as a damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) that is released by activated neutrophils and macrophages. S100A8/A9 has antimicrobial properties and serves as a biomarker for various inflammatory conditions, making it a valuable target for research in immunology, inflammation, and disease pathogenesis.

This quantitative sandwich ELISA kit detects human S100A8/A9 complex in serum, plasma, and tissue homogenates. The assay offers a detection range of 1.56 ng/mL to 100 ng/mL with a sensitivity of 0.39 ng/mL. The kit requires 50-100 μL sample volume and provides results within 1-5 hours, with measurements taken at 450 nm wavelength.

Application Examples

Note: The following application examples are drawn from a selection of publications citing this product. For additional applications, please refer to the full list of references in the "Citations" section.

This ELISA kit has been used in clinical research to measure S100A8/A9 complex levels in human biological samples, particularly in studies examining inflammatory conditions and intensive care scenarios. The kit has proven useful in biomarker research examining the relationship between S100A8/A9 levels and disease states. Applications span intensive care unit patient monitoring and inflammatory response analysis.

Intensive care research: Used to measure S100A8/A9 levels in serum samples from ICU patients, particularly in studies examining biomarkers prior to the onset of acute respiratory distress syndrome
Inflammatory biomarker studies: Applied in plasma-based research examining S100A8/A9 alongside other inflammatory mediators in sepsis and inflammatory conditions
Clinical sample analysis: Used for quantification of S100A8/A9 in various human biological fluids including serum and plasma samples from patient populations
Biomarker correlation studies: Applied in research examining associations between S100A8/A9 levels and clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients
