This rabbit IL18 ELISA kit employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique to measure the levels of rabbit IL18 in multiple samples, including serum or plasma. It also uses the enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction to visualize and analyze the analyte levels through the color intensity. The intensity of the colored product is in direct proportion to the IL18 levels in the sample and is measured at 450 nm through a microplate reader.
IL18 is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine of the IL-1 family that is primarily implicated in the activation of NK and T helper 1 cells and IFN-γ production in response to intracellular bacteria or viruses. When synergized with IL23, IL18 promotes the development and maintenance of Th17 cells that have been involved in autoimmune inflammatory diseases. IL18 also plays an important role in the Th1-mediated immune response in collaboration with IL12 which can then produce IFNγ-mediated inflammation in psoriatic lesions. IL18 has a central role in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases and serves as a staple biomarker in the evaluation of inflammation in physiology and disease, including the inflammatory phase of COVID-19.
