The rat ferritin (FE) ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively measure rat ferritin levels in serum, plasma, cell lysates, or tissue homogenates. It performs well in important characteristics, including sensitivity and specificity. This assay is based on the sandwich ELISA mechanism and enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction. The solution color develops proportionally to the amount of ferritin in the sample. And the intensity of the color can be measured at 450 nm via a microplate reader.
Ferritin is an iron-storage protein in eukaryotes that is primarily responsible for iron storage and is critical to iron homeostasis. It makes iron available for critical cellular processes while protecting lipids, DNA, and proteins from the potentially toxic effects of iron. Ferritin is also associated with many other diseases, including inflammatory, neurodegenerative, and malignant diseases. Circulating ferritin levels are often increased during sepsis. Ferritin is essential in iron sequestration iron thus blocking iron-causing oxidative toxicity and protecting against sepsis-associated kidney injury.
