Target Background

Function

Thick filament-associated protein located in the crossbridge region of vertebrate striated muscle a bands. In vitro it binds MHC, F-actin and native thin filaments, and modifies the activity of actin-activated myosin ATPase. It may modulate muscle contraction or may play a more structural role.

Data show that expression of mutant protein cMyBP-C (cMyBP-C(C10mut)) in cultured adult rat cardiomyocytes led to improper localization and contractile dysfunction. PMID: 25583989
These results show that the N-terminal region of MyBP-C stabilizes the ON state of thin filaments and the OFF state of thick filaments and lead to a novel hypothesis for the physiological role of MyBP-C in the regulation of cardiac contractility. PMID: 25512492
Expression of an actin binding-deficient cMyBP-C resulted in abnormal cytosolic distribution of the protein, indicating that interaction with actin is essential for the formation and/or maintenance of normal cMyBP-C sarcomeric distribution. PMID: 22982234
N' region of cMyBP-C is toxic to cardiomyocytes and able to induce cell death. PMID: 22527638
this study suggests that cMyBP-C is an easily releasable myofilament protein that is dephosphorylated, degraded and released into the circulation post-MI. PMID: 21971072
