Target Background

Function
Receptor that may play a role in the perception of bitterness and is gustducin-linked. May play a role in sensing the chemical composition of the gastrointestinal content. The activity of this receptor may stimulate alpha gustducin, mediate PLC-beta-2 activation and lead to the gating of TRPM5.
Gene References into Functions
  1. hTAS2R39 is the primary receptor for the bitterness of theaflavins PMID: 25273142
  2. TAS2R14 and TAS2R39 were activated by isoflavones and other isoflavonoids. PMID: 21942422
  3. Human bitter taste receptors hTAS2R8 and hTAS2R39 display differential functions to recognize bitter peptides. PMID: 21670512
  4. these results suggest the participation of hTAS2R39 in the detection of catechins in humans. PMID: 21272567
Subcellular Location
Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
G-protein coupled receptor T2R family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in subsets of taste receptor cells of the tongue and exclusively in gustducin-positive cells.
