In neurons, modulates the degradation of NMDA receptor GRIN2B subunit. Plays a role in the regulation of neuronal excitability.

TMEM25 hypermethylation might play a significant role in altering expression of this gene in colorectal cancer. PMID: 23324576
TMEM25 may be a useful tumor marker for favorable prognosis in breast cancer. PMID: 19776672
