Target Background

Function
Seems to play a role in p53-mediated apoptosis induction. Binds to NR1D2 and relieves it of its inhibitory effect on the transcription of APOC3 without affecting its DNA-binding activity.
Gene References into Functions
  1. p18(Hamlet) is a new cell-fate regulator that links the p38 MAPK and p53 pathways and contributes to the establishment of p53-regulated stress responses. PMID: 17380123
  2. Study reports that p18(Hamlet) can also mediate the cell cycle arrest induced in response to gamma-irradiation, by participating in the p53-dependent upregulation of the cell cycle inhibitor p21(Cip1) (CDKN1A). PMID: 17700068
Subcellular Location
Nucleus.
Protein Families
ZNHIT1 family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed abundantly in liver, but weakly in skeletal muscle, ovary and small intestine.
