Description

Immunization of a rabbit with recombinant Zea mays chiA protein (27-278aa) leads to the generation of specific antibodies within the rabbit's IgG-rich serum. The chiA antibody is subsequently purified via affinity chromatography, resulting in a highly specific chiA antibody. This chiA antibody exhibits reactivity with Zea mays chiA protein and is thoroughly validated for its functionality in both ELISA and WB applications.

ChitA, encoded by the chiA gene, is considered a key player in the plant's innate immune response to protect against chitin-based threats. ChitA belongs to the chitinase enzyme family, and it specifically breaks down chitin into simpler components, such as chitooligosaccharides and N-acetylglucosamine. This enzymatic activity is essential for the plant's defense mechanisms against chitin-containing pathogens, such as fungi and insects, as it helps in degrading their cell walls or exoskeletons.
