Involved in pH regulation to eliminate acids generated by active metabolism or to counter adverse environmental conditions. Major proton extruding system driven by the inward sodium ion chemical gradient. Plays an important role in signal transduction.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The results demonstrate that in renal cells, NHE1 is associated with several regulatory proteins including Hsp90, and that Hsp90 affects its function possibly through altered phosphorylation of the protein via the AKT kinase. PMID: 28483634
