Target Background

Function
Inhibitor of protein-phosphatase 1.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Results indicate that the M4 muscarinic receptor plays a critical role in modulating phosphorylation of DARPP-32-Thr75 in striatal medium spiny neurons; suggest that M4 receptor activation acts antagonistically with dopamine D1-like receptors within the striatum, and indicate that M4 receptors may be a potential target for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and other relevant central nervous system disorders. PMID: 28257887
  2. In a model of subarachnoid hemorrhage, rats with hydrocephalus had more severe basal ganglia injury with greater DARPP-32 depletion than rats without hydrocephalus. PMID: 26463938
  3. we also demonstrated frequent co-overexpression and positive correlation of DARPP-32, SRp20 and CD44E expression levels in human gastric primary tumors. PMID: 26119931
  4. Darpp32 interaction with beta-adducin may be the molecular pathway by which environmental changes may rapidly alter responsiveness of striatal neurons involved in the reward system. PMID: 26639316
  5. Study demonstrated that DARPP-32 was not altered in prefrontal cortex and hippocampus in sepsis PMID: 24978930
  6. In cortical & striatal brain regions, 3 different neuronal populations either expressing SSTRs & DARPP-32 alone or displaying colocalization were identified. SSTR-positive neurons lacking DARPP-32 colocalization may be spared in excitotoxicity. PMID: 22116741
  7. DARPP32 has a role in pluripotent stem cell differentiation toward medium-sized spiny neurons PMID: 23250204
  8. This study demonistrated that Changes in nucleus accumbens and neostriatal c-Fos and DARPP-32 immunoreactivity during different stages of food-reinforced instrumental training PMID: 22462413
  9. Fine-tuning of DARPP-32 levels leads to changes in the kinetics or sensitivity of MAPK/ERK signaling. PMID: 22301787
  10. In the striatum of methamphetamine-sensitized rats, phosphothreonine-DARPP-32 immunoreactivities are increased, but DARPP-32 immunoreactivities are not significantly different. PMID: 11954050
  11. acute stress resulted in the activation of DARPP-32 neurons, which were innervated by PACAP-ir neuronal structures in the extended amygdala PMID: 12409216
  12. DARPP-32 phosphorylation was studied in morphine-sensitized rats at different times after morphine challenge which increased levels of phospho-Thr75 DARPP-32 and decreased phospho-Thr34 DARPP-32 levels with time in caudate-putamen and nuucleus accumbens PMID: 15287884
  13. Based on the shape and spatial distribution of these cells, their staining by an anti-parvalbumin antibody, and their juxtaposition with processes containing tyrosine hydroxylase, that DARPP-32 is present in AII amacrine cells of rat retina. PMID: 15515184
  14. Methamphetamine induced an increase in phosphorylation of DARPP-32/Thr75. PMID: 15536496
  15. DARPP-32 is critical for the maintenance of thyroid differentiation by TSH and IGF-I, and loss of DARPP-32 expression may be a characteristic of thyroid cancer. PMID: 16020482
  16. the deletion of KKIQF, a PP1-binding motif of DARPP-32, resulted in a remarkable reduction in its affinity with PP1. PMID: 16428298
  17. This is the first report that DARPP-32 phosphorylation within the prefrontal cortex is associated with recognition as well as temporal order memory for objects. PMID: 16687181
  18. In some cortical structures (prelimbic and cingulate cortices, the dentate gyrus) as well as in the central amygdala, RHA-I rats showed higher DARPP-32 mRNA expression than RLA-I rats PMID: 17008016
  19. These data indicate that DARPP-32 participates in dopamine-mediated modifications of retinal function. PMID: 17552992
  20. These data suggest that a tonic increase in mGluR5 transmission in cocaine-sensitized rats sustains both the increase in phospho-Thr75 DARPP-32 levels and the expression of behavioral sensitization. PMID: 17680995
  21. although DARPP-32 impacts cortical inhibition through a previously demonstrated D2-dependent regulation of GABAergic currents in pyramidal cells, it is not involved in the direct D1-mediated regulation of fast-spiking interneurons PMID: 17693396
  22. Collectively, these findings suggested that changes of the DARPP-32 phosphorylation state may be important for over-activation of the direct pathway. PMID: 17884291
  23. chronic electroconvulsive stimulation increased transient expression of DARPP-32 in several time frames, in striatum and hippocampus PMID: 17919461
  24. results showed that inhibitory avoidance (IA) induced changes on DARPP-32 expression in striatum and hippocampus. DARPP-32 expression changes corroborate with changes in expression and phosphorylation of CREB, NMDA, AMPA after IA PMID: 18415674
  25. The nuclear accumulation of DARPP-32, a potent inhibitor of protein phosphatase-1, increases the phosphorylation of histone H3, an important component of nucleosomal response. PMID: 18496528
