Target Background

Function
Specific binding to the autonomously replicating sequence 1 (ARS1). Interaction with regulatory regions: probably involved in compacting the mitochondrial genome. It might play a positive role in gene expression and replication.
Gene References into Functions
  1. results suggest in log-phase cells, lack of Abf2p influences morphology of mt-nucleoids and their transmission into the bud; results suggest in stationary-phase cells, lack of Abf2p does not significantly alter protein composition of the mt-nucleoids PMID: 21282901
  2. Abf2 binds to most of the mitochondrial genome with a preference for GC-rich gene sequences. Thus, Abf2 is a bona fide mitochondrial DNA-packaging protein in vivo. PMID: 18477605
  3. Loss of Abf2p, an abundant mitochondrial nucleoid-associated protein, results in increased mitochondrial frameshifts and direct-repeat mediated deletions but has no effect on the rate of mitochondrial point mutations. PMID: 19015543
Subcellular Location
Mitochondrion. Nucleus.
