Description

The process of generating the ASGR2 polyclonal antibody adheres to a well-structured procedure. It commences with the repeated immunization of a rabbit using recombinant mouse ASGR2 protein (80-301aa), continuing until the desired antibody titer is reached. Subsequently, the rabbit's blood is collected, and the antibodies are meticulously purified from the serum using protein A/G. The functionality of the resulting ASGR2 antibody is thoroughly assessed through ELISA and WB applications, confirming its specific reactivity with the mouse ASGR2 protein.

The ASGR2 protein is a crucial component of the asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR), facilitating the recognition, uptake, and clearance of desialylated glycoproteins and glycolipids from the bloodstream, particularly in the liver. This function is vital for maintaining metabolic homeostasis and overall health.

Target Background

Function
Mediates the endocytosis of plasma glycoproteins to which the terminal sialic acid residue on their complex carbohydrate moieties has been removed. The receptor recognizes terminal galactose and N-acetylgalactosamine units. After ligand binding to the receptor, the resulting complex is internalized and transported to a sorting organelle, where receptor and ligand are disassociated. The receptor then returns to the cell membrane surface.
Gene References into Functions
  1. ASGP-R2 mediates the clearance of glycoproteins that bear oligosaccharides terminating with Siaalpha2,6Gal and thereby helps maintain the relative concentrations of these glycoproteins in the blood. PMID: 19075021
Subcellular Location
Membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein.
Tissue Specificity
Expressed exclusively in hepatic parenchymal cells.
