Target Background

Function
Glucanases possibly play a role in cell expansion during growth, in cell-cell fusion during mating, and in spore release during sporulation. This enzyme may be involved in beta-glucan degradation and also function biosynthetically as a transglycosylase.
Gene References into Functions
  1. A screening aimed at identifying deletion mutants with reduced branching of beta-(1,3)-glucan through beta-(1,6)-glycosidic linkages among them revealed only two, the bgl2Delta and gas1Delta mutants, showing 15% and 70% reductions in the branching, respectively, compared to the wild-type strain. PMID: 28634239
  2. Functionally related Bgl2p and Gas1p are the major glucan transferases forming the molecular ensemble of yeast cell wall. PMID: 16986442
  3. role of high-molecular-weight polyphosphates in activation of glucan transferase Bg12p PMID: 18680912
  4. the first evidence for amyloid-like properties of yeast cell wall protein-glucantransferase Bgl2p. PMID: 19098439
Subcellular Location
Secreted, cell wall. Note=Tightly bound to cell wall.
Protein Families
Glycosyl hydrolase 17 family
