Target Background

Function
Involved in the regulation of cell death induced by extracellular reactive oxygen species. Only the processed peptide, and not the full length GRI can bind in vivo to the extracellular domain of the receptor PRK5. The GRIp-induced cell death is superoxide and salicylic acid dependent.
Gene References into Functions
  1. induction of cell death in planta by a secreted plant protein GRIM REAPER (GRI) is dependent on the activity of the type II metacaspase METACASPASE-9. PMID: 25398910
  2. GRI is involved in the regulation of ROS-induced cell death in Arabidopsis leaves in a superoxide- and SA-dependent manner. [grim reaper] [gri] PMID: 19279211
Subcellular Location
Secreted, extracellular space, apoplast.
Protein Families
STIG1 family
Tissue Specificity
Highly expressed in flowers, and at very low levels in leaves.
