Polyclonal antibody generation against S protein necessitates sequential immunizations of a rabbit with recombinant Escherichia phage lambda (Bacteriophage lambda) folA protein (1-37aa). Once an effective antibody titer is achieved, the rabbit is bled, and antibodies are purified from the serum through affinity chromatography. The resulting folA antibody is then tested for functionality in ELISA and WB applications, displaying reactivity with Escherichia phage lambda (Bacteriophage lambda) folA protein.
The S protein of Escherichia phage lambda plays a crucial role in the infection process. It mainly mediates the attachment of the phage to the host bacterium and facilitates the injection of its genetic material into the host cell. It accomplishes this by causing structural changes in the tail of the phage, which then punctures the bacterial cell wall and delivers the viral genetic material. The S protein also helps in stabilizing the interaction between the phage and the host cell during the injection process.
