Description

The generation of the lptE polyclonal antibody starts with the selection of a recombinant Escherichia coli (strain K12) lptE protein as the immunogen, followed by the immunization of a rabbit to induce an antibody response. The serum is then collected from the rabbit to obtain polyclonal antibodies, which are purified using protein G affinity chromatography. The lptE antibody is recommended for detecting Escherichia coli (strain K12) lptE protein through ELISA and WB assays.

The Escherichia coli (strain K12) lptE protein plays a crucial role in the assembly and function of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) transport system. LptE is a periplasmic protein that interacts with other components of the LPS transport machinery, facilitating the transport of LPS molecules across the inner membrane to the outer membrane of the bacterium. This protein is essential for maintaining the integrity of the outer membrane and protecting the bacterium from environmental stresses.

Target Background

Function
Together with LptD, is involved in the assembly of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) at the surface of the outer membrane. Required for the proper assembly of LptD. Binds LPS and may serve as the LPS recognition site at the outer membrane.
Gene References into Functions
  1. LptE binds to and alters the physical state of LPS to catalyze its assembly at the cell surface. PMID: 24938785
Subcellular Location
Cell outer membrane; Lipid-anchor. Note=A substantial portion is found inside the LptD beta-barrel.
