Target Background

Function
Involved in the regulation of the onset of mitosis. Involved in a pathway that coordinates cell proliferation and differentiation. Implicated in spindle pole body (SPD) duplication. Dual specificity kinase that can phosphorylate serine, threonine and tyrosine residues. Phosphorylates the SPC29 and SPC110 spindle pole body components.
Gene References into Functions
  1. An important role for Mps1 phosphorylation in the spindle assembly checkpoint activation, beyond the direct recruitment of Mad1 and Mad2. PMID: 27280788
  2. CCT271850 is a potent, selective and orally bioavailable MPS1 kinase inhibitor. On the basis of in vivo pharmacodynamic vs efficacy relationships, we predict that more than 80% inhibition of MPS1 activity for at least 24 h is required to achieve tumour stasis or regression by CCT271850. PMID: 28334731
  3. These findings highlight MPS1 as a rational therapeutic target for medulloblastoma PMID: 27633003
  4. Disrupting Mps1 before mitotic entry reduces chromosomal passenger complex (CPC) localization to the centromere. Mps1 plays a minimal role in maintaining CPC localization once cells are in mitosis. PMID: 25854549
  5. Mps1 kinase controls Cnn1 localization and activity at kinetochores through the cell cycle. PMID: 25716979
  6. Ipl1 released these improper connections, whereas Mps1 triggered the formation of new force-generating microtubule attachments. PMID: 23371552
  7. found that Sgo1 overexpression rescues defects caused by metaphase inactivation of Mps1 and that Mps1 is required for Sgo1 localization to the kinetochore PMID: 21389114
  8. Mps1 plays an important role in kinetochore attachment during mitotic spindle assembly and function. PMID: 15668173
  9. it was demonstrated that mutual inhibition between the anaphase-promoting complex (APC) and Mps1, an essential component of the checkpoint, leads to sustained inactivation of the spindle checkpoint PMID: 16825537
  10. Phosphorylation of Dam1 residues S218 and S221 by Mps1 is required for efficient coupling of kinetochores to microtubule plus ends. PMID: 16890524
  11. Mps1 promotes re-orientation of kinetochore-spindle pole connections and eliminates those that do not generate tension between sister kinetochores. PMID: 18060784
  12. Results suggest that a putative Mps1-dependent phosphorylation of Ndc80 is important for spindle assembly checkpoint activation at kinetochores. PMID: 19300438
