Target Background

Function

Component of the origin recognition complex (ORC) that binds origins of replication. It has a role in both chromosomal replication and mating type transcriptional silencing. ORC binds to multiple sites within the ars1 origin of DNA replication in an ATP-independent manner. This binding is mediated by the N-terminal A.T hook repeats of orc4.

The interaction of the origin recognition complex (ORC) and the Orc4 subunit with origin DNA was examined using atomic force microscopy. ORC binding occurs through Orc4, and 2 turns of DNA appear to wrap around the Orc4 subunit in the ORC complex. [Orc4] PMID: 15598736
