Target Background

Function
Two distinct, membrane-bound, FAD-containing enzymes are responsible for the catalysis of fumarate and succinate interconversion; the fumarate reductase is used in anaerobic growth, and the succinate dehydrogenase is used in aerobic growth.
Gene References into Functions
  1. We demonstrate that the FAD assembly factor SdhE, which flavinylates and activates the respiratory enzyme succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), is also required for the complete activation and flavinylation of fumarate reductase . PMID: 24374335
  2. Out of plane distortions of the heme b of Escherichia coli succinate dehydrogenase PMID: 22393428
  3. Data suggest thatthe quinone within the quinone-binding pocket of comolex II is essential for catalysis. PMID: 20175986
  4. iron-sulfur clusters in Escherichia coli succinate dehydrogenase direct electron flow PMID: 16864590
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Peripheral membrane protein.
Protein Families
Succinate dehydrogenase/fumarate reductase iron-sulfur protein family
