Target Background

Function
Water channel required to facilitate the transport of water across cell membrane. May be involved in the osmoregulation in plants under high osmotic stress such as under a high salt condition. Transports urea in yeast cells in a pH-independent manner. Transports H(2)O(2) in yeast cells.
Gene References into Functions
  1. TIP1;1 and TIP1;2 single or double mutants did not show significant changes in water content or water retention, and showed no sign of early senescence or growth retardation. [TIP1;2] PMID: 18643996
Subcellular Location
Vacuole membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Note=Tonoplast.
Protein Families
MIP/aquaporin (TC 1.A.8) family, TIP (TC 1.A.8.10) subfamily
Tissue Specificity
Widely expressed. Predominantly expressed in roots.
