Target Background

Function
Component of the TOM (translocase of outer membrane) receptor complex responsible for the recognition and translocation of cytosolically synthesized mitochondrial preproteins. TOM6 is involved in assembly and stability of the TOM complex.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Tom6 phosphorylation provides a direct means for regulating mitochondrial biogenesis and activity in a cell cycle-specific manner. PMID: 25378463
  2. Overexpression of SAM37 suppresses the growth phenotype of tom6Delta, and cells lacking both genes are not viable. PMID: 19797086
Subcellular Location
Mitochondrion outer membrane; Single-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Tom6 family
