The creation of the epiA polyclonal antibody follows a precise protocol. The lantibiotic epidermin is a tetra cyclic peptide generated and secreted by Staphylococcus epidermidi. It belongs to the lantibiotic family, a group of antimicrobial peptides synthesized ribosomally and post-translationally modified. Epidermin exhibits bactericidal properties against Gram-positive bacteria by concurrently inhibiting the synthesis of DNA, RNA, proteins, and polysaccharides. This multifaceted inhibition results in a lack of energy for essential biosynthetic processes.
