Precision
Intra-assay Precision (Precision within an assay): CV%<8%
Three samples of known concentration were tested twenty times on one plate to assess.
Inter-assay Precision (Precision between assays): CV%<10%
Three samples of known concentration were tested in twenty assays to assess.

Linearity
To assess the linearity of the assay, samples were spiked with high concentrations of rat CT in various matrices and diluted with the Sample Diluent to produce samples with values within the dynamic range of the assay.

Description

Calcitonin is a 32-amino acid peptide hormone primarily produced by the parafollicular cells (C cells) of the thyroid gland. This hormone plays an important role in calcium homeostasis by inhibiting osteoclast activity, thereby reducing bone resorption and lowering blood calcium levels. Calcitonin also promotes calcium excretion by the kidneys and inhibits calcium absorption in the intestines. In research settings, calcitonin serves as an important biomarker for medullary thyroid carcinoma and other neuroendocrine tumors. This makes it valuable for both diagnostic and therapeutic monitoring studies.

The Rat Calcitonin,CT ELISA Kit (CSB-E05132r) is designed for quantitative measurement of calcitonin in rat samples using a sandwich assay principle. This kit works with serum, plasma, and tissue homogenates with a detection range of 1.56 pg/mL to 100 pg/mL and sensitivity of 0.39 pg/mL. The assay requires 50-100 μL sample volume and can be completed within 1-5 hours, with detection performed at 450 nm wavelength.

Application Examples

Note: The following application examples are drawn from a selection of publications citing this product. For additional applications, please refer to the full list of references in the "Citations" section.

This ELISA kit has been used in research studying bone metabolism and endocrine regulation. Studies have examined the relationships between various hormones and bone health markers. The kit allows quantification of calcitonin in rat serum samples as part of comprehensive biochemical analyses alongside other bone formation and resorption markers.

Bone metabolism research - Used to measure calcitonin levels alongside bone-specific alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin, and other bone turnover markers in studies examining bone health and metabolic processes
Endocrine profiling - Applied in hormone analysis studies that examine circadian patterns and temporal variations in hormone concentrations, particularly in conjunction with parathyroid hormone measurements
Inflammatory biomarker studies - Used as part of multi-analyte panels that include inflammatory cytokines to assess the interplay between endocrine factors and inflammatory responses
Calcium homeostasis research - Applied in studies examining calcium and phosphate regulation, where calcitonin measurements complement studies of mineral metabolism and related biochemical parameters

 Q&A
Q:

I need a calcitonin ELISA with high sensitivity because the last one I used was not sensitive enough to detect plasma calcitonin levels and required large volumes of plasma. Can you guarantee the detection limit at just under 2 pg/ml calcitonin?

A:

For the current kit of CSB-E05132r, the sensitivity is 0.39 pg/ml and the detection range is 1.56 pg/ml-100 pg/ml. If your sample is with a concentration lower than 0.39 pg/ml, then the kit could not detect it for sure. If your sample falls in the concentration 0.39 pg/ml-1.56 pg/ml, then the kit could detect it. But in this range of 0.39 pg/ml-1.56 pg/ml, the repeatability is not so good. It all depends on the concentration of your sample.
