Precision
Intra-assay Precision (Precision within an assay): CV%<8%
Three samples of known concentration were tested twenty times on one plate to assess.
Inter-assay Precision (Precision between assays): CV%<10%
Three samples of known concentration were tested in twenty assays to assess.

Linearity
To assess the linearity of the assay, samples were spiked with high concentrations of rat CT in various matrices and diluted with the Sample Diluent to produce samples with values within the dynamic range of the assay.

Description

The rat calcitonin (CT) ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively measure rat calcitonin concentrations in serum, plasma, or tissue homogenates. It performs well in important characteristics, including sensitivity and specificity. This assay is based on the sandwich ELISA mechanism and enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction. The solution color develops proportionally to the amount of calcitonin in the sample. And the intensity of the color can be measured at 450 nm via a microplate reader.

Calcitonin is a hormone secreted by the C-cells of the thyroid gland and mainly functions to lower calcium levels in the blood. It reduces blood calcium levels by inhibiting osteoclast activity in the bones and increasing the amount of calcium excreted in the urine. This hormone also prevents the absorption of calcium from the intestine, as well as increases the calcium absorbed by the kidney. When calcium concentration in the serum elevates, calcitonin is inducibly expressed and protects against the development of hypercalcemia. Calcitonin is also stimulated by gastrointestinal hormones such as gastrin. It is also an important tumor marker of thyroid carcinoma.

 Q&A
Q:

I need a calcitonin ELISA with high sensitivity because the last one I used was not sensitive enough to detect plasma calcitonin levels and required large volumes of plasma. Can you guarantee the detection limit at just under 2 pg/ml calcitonin?

A:

For the current kit of CSB-E05132r, the sensitivity is 0.39 pg/ml and the detection range is 1.56 pg/ml-100 pg/ml. If your sample is with a concentration lower than 0.39 pg/ml, then the kit could not detect it for sure. If your sample falls in the concentration 0.39 pg/ml-1.56 pg/ml, then the kit could detect it. But in this range of 0.39 pg/ml-1.56 pg/ml, the repeatability is not so good. It all depends on the concentration of your sample.
