CALCA

CALCA, also known as calcitonin-related peptide α, has alternative names including CT, KC, PCT, CGRP, CALC1, CGRP1, and CGRP-I. CALCA is a peptide hormone that includes calcitonin (calcitonin), calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), and katacalcin. Calcitonin plays a role in regulating calcium and phosphorus metabolism, while CGRP, as a neuropeptide, has vasodilatory effects and antibacterial activity. CALCA produces different bioactive peptides through the tissue-specific transcription of its gene transcripts and the cleavage of active precursor proteins. CALCA is involved in various physiological processes, including bone health, pain perception, blood pressure regulation, and inflammatory responses. The expression levels of CALCA are associated with multiple tumors, such as gastric cancer, lung cancer, and testicular tumors.
