Reconstitution

We recommend that this vial be briefly centrifuged prior to opening to bring the contents to the bottom. Please reconstitute protein in deionized sterile water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL.We recommend to add 5-50% of glycerol (final concentration) and aliquot for long-term storage at -20°C/-80°C. Our default final concentration of glycerol is 50%. Customers could use it as reference.

Description

Heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor serves as both a potent mitogen signaling through EGFR/ErbB receptors and the physiological receptor for diphtheria toxin, making it a critical tool in cancer biology and receptor-ligand interaction studies. This tag-free recombinant protein spans the full mature sequence (residues 63–148) and demonstrates exceptional potency, with an ED50 below 1 ng/mL in Balb/c 3T3 proliferation assays corresponding to a specific activity exceeding 1.0 × 10⁶ IU/mg — providing a reliable basis for cell proliferation and survival assays, wound healing models, and in vivo tumor biology studies. Produced in *E. coli*, the protein lacks glycosylation, which makes it particularly appropriate for receptor-ligand binding and competition assays via SPR or ELISA where uniform molecular species and precise molar quantification are essential. Growth factor that mediates its effects via EGFR, ERBB2 and ERBB4. Required for normal cardiac valve formation and normal heart function. Promotes smooth muscle cell proliferation. May be involved in macrophage-mediated cellular proliferation. It is mitogenic for fibroblasts, but not endothelial cells. It is able to bind EGF receptor/EGFR with higher affinity than EGF itself and is a far more potent mitogen for smooth muscle cells than EGF. Also acts as a diphtheria toxin receptor.
