Target Background

Function
Subunit of the peripheral V1 complex of vacuolar ATPase. Subunit H activates the ATPase activity of the enzyme and couples ATPase activity to proton flow. Vacuolar ATPase is responsible for acidifying a variety of intracellular compartments in eukaryotic cells, thus providing most of the energy required for transport processes in the vacuolar system. Involved in the endocytosis mediated by clathrin-coated pits, required for the formation of endosomes.
Gene References into Functions
  1. These data provide evidence that partial loss of ATP6V1H function results in osteoporosis/osteopenia. PMID: 27924156
  2. These studies have uncovered a new, ATP6V1H-mediated pathway that regulates bone formation, and defines a new mechanism of disease that leads to bone loss. We propose that MMP9/MMP13 could be therapeutic targets for patients with this rare genetic disease. PMID: 28158191
  3. ATP6V1H may represent a critical molecular mechanism involved in the development of type 2 diabetes and its compilations through its important regulatory effect on vacuolar-ATPase activity. PMID: 21871445
  4. Our study shows that multiple mechanisms of pump dysfunction result from B1 subunit mutations with a common outcome being defective assembly PMID: 18368028
