Target Background

Function

Component of the chaperonin-containing T-complex (TRiC), a molecular chaperone complex that assists the folding of proteins upon ATP hydrolysis. The TRiC complex mediates the folding of WRAP53/TCAB1, thereby regulating telomere maintenance. As part of the TRiC complex may play a role in the assembly of BBSome, a complex involved in ciliogenesis regulating transports vesicles to the cilia. The TRiC complex plays a role in the folding of actin and tubulin.

Study demonstrated that CCT8 expression is widely upregulated in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), and enhanced the migration and invasion of ESCC cells, indicating that ectopic CCT8 expression contributes to the highly aggressive nature of ESCC probably by increasing alpha-actin and beta-tubulin expression. Ectopic expression of CCT8 also ameliorates the age-associated demise of proteostasis and corrects proteostatic deficiencies in worm models of Huntington's disease. PMID: 27892468
