Target Background

Function
Catalyzes the NADH-dependent reduction of hydroxypyruvate into glycerate in the photorespiratory core cycle. Mediates fatty acid beta-oxidation in germinating seeds when malate dehydrogenase is absent.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Elimination of both HPR and PMDH in peroxisomes causes a slight decrease in the rates of photosynthesis under photorespiratory conditions. [HPR1] PMID: 21567290
  2. The results indicate that HPR can oxidise NADH at sufficient rate in the absence of PMDH to support beta-oxidation and hence seed germination. PMID: 19812894
Subcellular Location
Peroxisome.
Protein Families
D-isomer specific 2-hydroxyacid dehydrogenase family
Tissue Specificity
Present in leaves (at protein level). Mostly expressed in photosynthetic tissues such as leaves, stems, flowers, buds, and, to a lower extent, in siliques and roots.
