Indirectly represses transcription of HBG1 and HBG2, hemoglobin subunits gamma-1 and gamma-2, in erythroid cells, via direct transcriptional activation of the chromodomain protein CHD4, a component of the NuRD complex. Activates transcription of matrix-remodeling genes such as MMP1 during fibroblast senescence. Activates transcription of the gap junction gene GJC1, perhaps in response to increasing glucose.
