The region for expressing recombinant Onchocerca volvulus OV16 contains amino acids 17-197. The expected molecular weight for the OV16 protein is calculated to be 24 kDa. This OV16 protein is produced using e.coli expression system. The N-terminal 6xHis tag was smoothly integrated into the coding gene of OV16, which enables a simple process of detecting and purifying the OV16 recombinant protein in the following steps.
The OV-16 antigen is specific to O. volvulus and is not found in other filarial nematodes. OV-16 is used in serological tests to detect antibodies produced by the human immune system in response to O. volvulus infection. Serological tests, such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs), based on the detection of antibodies against OV-16, are valuable tools for epidemiological studies and for monitoring the success of onchocerciasis control programs, particularly mass drug administration campaigns.Applications : Cell culture
Review: Maxisorp Plates were incubated Linear epitopes in Onchocerca volvulus overnight at 4˚C with 100 μL of Recombinant Ov-16 antigen for Onchocerca volvulus at 1 μg/ml.

Applications : ELISA standard and its raw materials
Review: ELISA measurements of the antibody responses to OvMP-1 (IgG), OvMP-23 (IgG) and Ov16 (IgG4) in sera from study participants from Jimma Town (Ethiopia). Participants are grouped according to the type of helminth infection that was detected by coprological examination. The dashed lines indicate the antigen-specific cut-offs: 0.045 for OvMP-1; 0.11 for OvMP-23 and 0.10 for Ov16.
