This recombinant monoclonal antibody is a research-grade biosimilar of the anti-claudin antibodies disclosed in WO2017/096163 A1, targeting CLDN6 and CLDN9 (claudin-6 / claudin-9), two closely related members of the claudin tight-junction protein family. Claudins are tetraspan (four-transmembrane) membrane proteins whose extracellular loops mediate cell–cell interactions that help form tight junction barriers and maintain epithelial polarity. CLDN6 is described as developmentally regulated (oncofetal) and is frequently leveraged as a cell-surface antigen in solid tumor research (e.g., ovarian, endometrial, germ cell tumor contexts), while CLDN9 has also been reported as aberrantly expressed in several cancers (including breast and gastric cancer), making the CLDN6/CLDN9 axis useful for studying tumor-associated tight-junction programs and antigen heterogeneity.
WO2017/096163 A1 describes novel anti-CLDN antibodies and antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs), noting the high extracellular-domain similarity between CLDN6 and CLDN9 and presenting examples of antibodies that are multi-reactive (binding both CLDN6 and CLDN9) as well as antibodies with differing specificity profiles. The patent also reports functional characterization such as cell binding (flow cytometry) and antibody internalization with delivery of a cytotoxic protein payload in cell-based assays, supporting the use of these antibodies for interrogating cell-surface engagement and trafficking. This biosimilar provides the antibody component alone, enabling researchers to study CLDN6/CLDN9 expression profiling, target binding specificity/cross-reactivity, and receptor/antigen internalization mechanisms independent of any conjugated cytotoxic payload effects—useful for early-stage target validation and modality feasibility work (e.g., ADC-relevant internalization behavior) in oncology research models.
