Target Background

Function
Molecular chaperone that hydrolyzes ATP and is associated with the chloroplast protein import apparatus. May function as the motor for chloroplast protein translocation, as translocation requires ATP hydrolysis in the stroma. May interact with a ClpP-like protease involved in degradation of denatured proteins in the chloroplast. Involved in the regulation of chlorophyll b biosynthesis through the destabilization of chlorophyllide a oxygenase (CAO) protein in response to the accumulation of chlorophyll b. Involved in leaf iron homeostasis.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Data show that the loop connecting the two halves of AtClpD N-terminal domain (NTD) is longer and covers the region which in case of AtClpC1 is thought to contribute to adaptor protein interaction. PMID: 28287170
  2. indicate that CLPC1 plays a direct or indirect role in chloroplast transcriptome homeostasis PMID: 30208840
  3. Hsp93 role in protein import and proteolysis and association with chloroplast envelope. PMID: 26586836
  4. that of the two near-identical ClpC paralogs (ClpC1 and ClpC2) in Arabidopsis chloroplasts, along with the closely related ClpD, it is ClpC1 that is the most abundant throughout leaf maturation. PMID: 24599948
  5. ClpC1 is involved in leaf Fe homeostasis, presumably via chloroplast translocation of some nuclear-encoded proteins which function in Fe transport. PMID: 20382967
  6. data suggest that overall ClpC as a stromal molecular chaperone plays a vital role in chloroplast function and leaf development and is likely involved in photosystem biogenesis. [clpC1] PMID: 15563614
  7. Study indicated that a chloroplast Clp protease is involved in regulating chlorophyll b biosynthesis through the destabilization of chlorophyllide a oxygenase protein in response to the accumulation of chlorophyll b. PMID: 17291312
  8. cpSRP54 deletion led in young leaves to up-regulation of thylakoid proteases and stromal chaperones, including ClpC. PMID: 18633119
