The procedure for generating polyclonal antibodies against folA involves repetitive immunizations of a rabbit with recombinant Lactobacillus casei folA protein (2-163aa). Upon reaching a sufficient antibody titer, the rabbit undergoes bleeding, and the serum-derived antibodies are purified through affinity chromatography. Subsequent testing of the folA antibody in ELISA and WB applications confirms its reactivity with Lactobacillus casei folA protein.
The main function of the Lactobacillus casei folA protein is to catalyze the conversion of dihydrofolate (DHF) into tetrahydrofolate (THF) through a process called dihydrofolate reductase activity. This enzyme is involved in folate metabolism, which is essential for the synthesis of nucleotides, amino acids, and other important cellular components. It plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of folate derivatives within the cell.
