Target Background

Function
Contributes to the degradation of host DNA, permitting the scavenging of host-derived nucleotides for phage DNA synthesis. Sequence-specific endonuclease. Catalyzes nicking of the bottom strand of double-stranded DNA between the first and second base pair to the right of a top-strand CCGC motif. Does not cleave native phage DNA, which contains 5-hydroxymethylcytosine instead of cytosine.
Gene References into Functions
  1. EndoII forms a striking X-shaped tetrameric structure composed as a dimer of dimers, with a protruding hairpin domain not present in UvrC or I-TevI providing most of the dimerization and tetramerization interfaces. PMID: 20156453
  2. The conserved glycine (G49) and arginine (R57) were essential for normal sequence recognition. PMID: 18539732
