Target Background

Function
Catalyzes the aldol condensation of dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP or glycerone-phosphate) with glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (G3P) to form fructose 1,6-bisphosphate (FBP) in gluconeogenesis and the reverse reaction in glycolysis.
Gene References into Functions
  1. To test if Fba1p is an antifungal target, the effects of depleting this enzyme in Candida albicans was investigated using a methionine/cysteine-conditional mutant (MET3-FBA1/fba1); and it was found that Fba1p is required for the growth of C. albicans. PMID: 16896220
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm.
