Target Background

Function
Catalyzes the deacetylation of lysine residues on the N-terminal part of the core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4). Histone deacetylation may constitute a tag for epigenetic repression and plays an important role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression and developmental events. For instance, deacetylation of histone H3 may be a prerequisite for the subsequent recruitment of the histone methyltransferase Su(var)3-9 to histones. Involved in position-effect variegation (PEV). In the larval brain, part of a regulatory network including the transcriptional repressors klu, dpn and E(spl)mgamma-HLH which is required for type II neuroblast self-renewal and for maintaining erm in an inactive state in intermediate neural progenitors (INP).
Gene References into Functions
  1. Rpd3 accumulates in the nucleolus in the early stage of starvation, upregulates rRNA synthesis, maintains the polysome amount for translation, and finally increases stress tolerance proteins, such as autophagy-related proteins, to acquire starvation stress resistance. PMID: 27907135
  2. Hdac1/Rpd3 functions together with self-renewal transcriptional repressors to maintain the erm immature intermediate neural progenitors enhancer in an inactive but poised state in neuroblasts. PMID: 28245922
  3. This study tested the longevity effects of RPD3 on multiple nutrient levels. PMID: 26647291
  4. Rpd3 deacetylase in the heart plays a significant role in cardiac function and longevity to systemically modulate the fly's response to the environment PMID: 26399365
  5. the Atro-Rpd3 complex plays a conserved role to function as a Ci(R) corepressor. PMID: 24385484
