HDAC1

HDAC1, also known as Histone Deacetylase 1, and by other names such as GON 10, HD1, HDAC 1, Histone deacetylase 1, Reduced potassium dependency yeast homolog like 1, RPD3, and RPD3L1, is an enzyme encoded by the HDAC1 gene. It is a member of the histone deacetylase family and primarily functions in the cell nucleus. The mechanism of action for HDAC1 involves removing acetyl groups from histones, leading to chromatin condensation and the suppression of specific gene transcription. The activity of HDAC1 is regulated by various signaling pathways, including the Wnt signaling pathway and the PKN1 signaling pathway. HDAC1 is involved in the regulation of important physiological processes such as the cell cycle, cell differentiation, and apoptosis. Abnormal expression or altered activity of HDAC1 is associated with the development of various diseases, particularly cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiovascular diseases.

HDAC1 is one of the main targets of histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi), which can inhibit the activity of HDAC1, modulate the expression and stability of proteins involved in apoptosis and differentiation, and induce cell apoptosis and differentiation, making them a new class of anticancer drugs. The inhibitors of HDAC1 have broad prospects for application in cancer treatment, and the role of HDAC1 in the regulation of immune cell function and autoimmune diseases has also received significant attention.
