Target Background

Function
Required for the maintenance of the bipolar budding pattern. Involved in selecting bud sites at both the distal and proximal poles of daughter cells as well as near previously used division sites on mother cells.
Gene References into Functions
  1. These observations suggest that the interaction of Rax2p with Bud8p and Bud9p may contribute to the translocation of bipolar landmarks to the correct sites. PMID: 20678480
  2. Rax1p and Rax2p interact closely with each other and with Bud8p and Bud9p in the establishment and/or maintenance of the cortical landmarks for bipolar budding PMID: 15356260
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Bud neck. Bud tip. Note=Before cytokinesis, RAX2 concentrates as a ring at the mother-bud neck and to the tip of the bud. The RAX2 ring splits at cytokinesis, endowing each progeny cell with a RAX2 ring and additional RAX2 localization at the distal bud pole of the newborn daughter cell. The rings persist at the cell cortex for several generations, giving rise to cells decorated by multiple rings.
