Description

This rabbit polyclonal antibody against fimA is developed in a rabbit. The peptide sequence for the immunogen was taken from within the amino acids 24-182 of the recombinant Escherichia coli fimA protein. This fimA antibody is purified by protein A/G. Two applications ELISA and WB have been used in assays to test for the specificity of this fimA antibody. It can react with Escherichia coli fimA protein.

The fimA is the major structural subunit, which forms the majority of the Escherichia coli type-1 fimbrial. Studies have shown that type 1 fimbriae, and particularly fimA, as an abundant surface protein, are potent targets for host immunity. The fimA protein, along with other fimbrial proteins, allows Escherichia coli to adhere to specific receptors or ligands on host cells, tissues, or abiotic surfaces.

Target Background

Function
Fimbriae (also called pili), polar filaments radiating from the surface of the bacterium to a length of 0.5-1.5 micrometers and numbering 100-300 per cell, enable bacteria to colonize the epithelium of specific host organs.
Gene References into Functions
  1. FimA is capable of intramolecular self-complementation via its own donor strand, as evidenced by the loss of folding competence upon donor strand deletion. PMID: 21816158
  2. Results show that pilA recombinant protein has some immunoprotection effect with the challenging of virulent strains of E. coli GH1.2. PMID: 17577990
  3. report the identification of a soluble form of the pilus protein FimA from the culture supernatants of E. coli K1, Salmonella, and Shigella that can potently inhibit Bax-mediated release of cytochrome c from isolated mitochondria. PMID: 20347420
Subcellular Location
