Precision
Intra-assay Precision (Precision within an assay): CV%<8%
Three samples of known concentration were tested twenty times on one plate to assess.
Inter-assay Precision (Precision between assays): CV%<10%
Three samples of known concentration were tested in twenty assays to assess.
Linearity
To assess the linearity of the assay, samples were spiked with high concentrations of human SP in various matrices and diluted with the Sample Diluent to produce samples with values within the dynamic range of the assay.

Description

Substance P is an 11-amino acid neuropeptide belonging to the tachykinin family that functions as a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator in the central and peripheral nervous systems. It is primarily involved in pain transmission, inflammatory responses, and stress-related behaviors, binding to neurokinin-1 receptors to mediate its biological effects. Substance P plays important roles in nociception, neurogenic inflammation, and various physiological processes including gastrointestinal motility, respiratory function, and immune system modulation, making it a significant target for neurobiological and pain research studies.

The Human Substance P ELISA Kit (CSB-E08357h) is a quantitative sandwich immunoassay designed for measuring SP levels in human serum, plasma, and tissue homogenates. The assay offers a detection range of 6.25 pg/mL to 400 pg/mL with a sensitivity of 1.56 pg/mL, requiring 50-100 μL sample volume per well. The complete assay procedure takes 1-5 hours. Optical density measurements are performed at 450 nm wavelength.

Application Examples

Note: The following application examples are drawn from a selection of publications citing this product. For additional applications, please refer to the full list of references in the "Citations" section.

This ELISA kit has been used in research examining neuropeptide signaling pathways and their role in disease mechanisms. Studies have applied the kit to measure substance P levels in various biological samples including urine and cell culture supernatants to understand neurogenic inflammation and pain signaling processes.

Neurogenic inflammation research: Examining substance P release from dorsal root ganglia in response to matrix metalloproteinase stimulation and the effects of pathway inhibitors on neuropeptide production
Urological disease studies: Analysis of substance P levels in urine samples from patients to explore potential biomarker applications in recurrent urinary tract infections
Gastrointestinal research: Measurement of substance P alongside other inflammatory mediators in esophageal tissue homogenates to study mucosal inflammation and neuropeptide signaling
Cell culture applications: Quantification of substance P in cell culture supernatants to examine neuropeptide release mechanisms and cellular responses to various stimuli
