This human substance P (SP) ELISA kit employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique to measure the levels of human SP in different samples, including serum, plasma, or tissue homogenates. The enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction is also used to amplify the signal and quantify the levels of the analyte through the intensity of the colored product. The color intensity positively correlates with the amount of SP bound in the initial step.
Substance P is well-known for its function as a neurotransmitter and a modulator of pain perception by altering cellular signaling pathways. It is released from sensory nerve endings and is widely present in nerve fibers. Substance P is involved in gastrointestinal functioning, memory processing, angiogenesis, vasodilation, and cell proliferation. It also acts on bones and related tissues by binding to receptors, thus regulating bone metabolism, cartilage metabolism, and fracture healing.
