Reconstitution

We recommend that this vial be briefly centrifuged prior to opening to bring the contents to the bottom. Please reconstitute protein in deionized sterile water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL.We recommend to add 5-50% of glycerol (final concentration) and aliquot for long-term storage at -20°C/-80°C. Our default final concentration of glycerol is 50%. Customers could use it as reference.

Storage Condition

Description

Human beta-defensin 3 (DEFB103A) is a broad-spectrum cationic antimicrobial peptide whose salt-insensitive bactericidal activity distinguishes it from other defensin family members, making it particularly relevant for innate immunity and host defense research. This tag-free recombinant protein, covering residues 23–67 of the mature sequence, demonstrates an ED50 below 30 μg/ml against *E. coli*, corresponding to a specific activity exceeding 33.3 IU/mg—validated potency that supports minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) determination, bactericidal and fungicidal activity assays, and membrane disruption mechanistic studies. Endotoxin levels below 1.0 EU/μg eliminate LPS-mediated confounding in cell-based innate immunity experiments and drug resistance studies where distinguishing peptide-driven killing from endotoxin artifacts is essential. Purity exceeding 98% by SDS-PAGE, combined with this stringent endotoxin control, satisfies the quality criteria typical for quantitative antimicrobial dose-response work.

Exhibits antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria S.aureus and S.pyogenes, Gram-negative bacteria P.aeruginosa and E.coli and the yeast C.albicans. Kills multiresistant S.aureus and vancomycin-resistant E.faecium. No significant hemolytic activity was observed.
