Description

Carbonic anhydrase VIII has long been classified as an enzymatically inactive "carbonic anhydrase-related protein," yet this recombinant human CA8 (residues 2–290, C-terminal 6xHis tag) demonstrates measurable esterase activity of 162.5 pmol/min/μg, providing a quantitative foundation for kinetic parameter analysis (Km, Vmax, kcat) and substrate specificity profiling. The confirmed catalytic function also supports inhibitor screening and IC50 determination studies relevant to cancer biology, where CA8's emerging roles are under active investigation. Purity exceeding 95% by SDS-PAGE combined with endotoxin levels below 1.0 EU/μg satisfies the criteria typical for accurate kinetic measurements, drug candidate evaluation, and use as a positive control in enzyme-linked assays.
