Description

Generation of the D polyclonal antibody involves rabbit immunization with recombinant Escherichia phage lambda gpD protein (1-110aa), triggering an immune response in the rabbit that prompts the production of specific antibodies within the rabbit's serum. Following affinity chromatography purification, the resultant D antibody exhibits reactivity with Escherichia phage lambda gpD protein and is extensively validated for use in ELISA and WB applications.

The Escherichia phage lambda gpD protein mainly acts as a decoration protein for the phage capsid. During the final stages of the phage lambda's life cycle, when DNA packaging is nearly complete, the gpD protein binds to the phage capsid, stabilizing the capsid structure and ensuring the proper formation of the phage particle. While it is not directly involved in DNA packaging, gpD is essential for packaging the full length of the phage's genetic material.

Target Background

Function
Stabilizes the expansion of the capsid head shell after genome packaging. The packaging of viral genome in the procapsid triggers a dramatic reconfiguration of the capsid shell, expanding from roughly 50nm to 60nm while the capsid thickness decreases. 415 capsid decoration protein molecules cooperatively bind the expanded capsid, thereby stabilizing the mature capsid shell.
Subcellular Location
Virion. Host cytoplasm.
Protein Families
Lambda phage gpD family
